im banned from the flick you crew so here it goes. im bummed out because there are so few good ones that I can think of.
1) streetcar named desire
2) coal miner's daughter
3) the last picture show
4) what's eating gilbert grape
5) nashville
6) ray (OK, so it was a mess of a movie, but i think it was a movie in need of an editor; it could have been good)
7) giant
more? i didnt include, like, glory, fried green ya ya hope floating type stuff, because i dont like them. ditto gone with the wind, to kill a mockingbird, john grisham, and, oddly, cat on a hot tin roof. and eve's bayou, MS masala, cookie's fortune, et al. and then, do westerns count? probably then high noon. but that seems like a different list. what i was trying to get was movies in which the southern aspect plays prominently. there are some that seem southern but are not (man who wasnt there, hairspray) and southern movies that could have been anywhere (grisham).
i know im missing some huge ones, but i cant think. apostle was a decent movie but not great.

I watched Midnight Cowboy this weekend, which is kinda sorta a movie about the South.

deliverance. i dont know. this calls up the problem i have with a lot of "southern" movies... some "good" southern movies i think are offensive or get the south totally wrong. see oh brother where art thou, for example.
texas chainsaw massacre is an interesting choice. it's been years since i saw it. do you think it's a "southern" movie, or a movie merely taking place in the south?

Body Heat!
Gimme a B! Gimme an O! Gimme two D's! Gimme a Y!What's that spell?
Body Heat!!!!
What a southern movie if there ever was one!
What about Wild Things? Too trashy? The Orchid Thief? What are we looking at here, by the way...
Not to mention Gone with the Wind and Birth of a Nation. The Gernal (Buster Keyton) is awesome also.
More to come...
